This course is intended for existing SketchUp Pro users who want to embrace modern day photo-rendering techniques and take their SketchUp models to the next level. To ensure your success in this course, we recommend a solid foundation in SketchUp and basic proficiency in Photoshop. The following is a general outline. The range of topics covered during your training is dependent upon student level, time available and preferences of your course booking.
Day One
We will start with an overview of the whoie course and then explore options and packages available to SketchUp users.
Topics covered include:- Best plug-ins and tips when modelling for rendering
- Best practices and things to avoid
- Advanced texturing in SketchUp
- Preparing textures in Photoshop
- Readying the model
- Geo location & camera tips
- Rendering principles and the 3 pillars
- V-Ray workflow, asset editor and preview renders
- Lighting the scene and cameras
- Materials generic (wood, plastics, metals)
- V-Ray frame buffer, render history and export
Day Two
We will continue by looking at further rendering topics and how to complete the render in Photoshop (Post processing) for final high quality presentations.
Topics covered include:- Material specifics (glass, translucent)
- Light fixtures, domelight, emitters materials
- Fur and scatter
- Production renders
- Power of the frame buffer editing tools
- Using render elements in Photoshop (post production)

This course is provided at the XChange Training London training centre based at:

EC1M 4BHSt John’s Lane is located in the heart of Clerkenwell close to the junction of Farringdon and Clerkenwell Road. Farringdon tube & train station is just a few minutes away and the training centre can also be accessed from Chancery Lane and Barbican tubes in about 10 minutes. There is also easy direct access by bus from Waterloo (243) and West End (55) with nearby stops.
Daily course times run between 10am and 4:30pm with an hour break for lunch and both mid morning and mid-afternoon refreshment breaks. We recommend arrival at 9.45am for registration on the first day of the course.

Max C. has delivered the 2-day SketchUp course very well. He was clear and concise, and delivered the course with lots of humour and a friendly, positive attitude. He was able to start from absolute basics for those on the course who had never used SketchUp before, but he also provided lots of high-level expertise which was very useful to me - a SketchUp user with a few years of self-taught experience. My knowledge of Sketchup miniscule compraed to fellow delegates who had spent many hours working with product. I had spent less than 2 hours and enrolled thinking other delegates would have same experience. Max and my fellow delegates were kind, generous and patient with an old snail in their midst. I also was unaware how different the iPad version is to Windows and MAC

I had an ok understanding of sketchup prior to attending this course. I used it whilst at university but did't really have any formal training. I really enjoyed the course. Max was an amazing instructor, his knowledge was endless and he was light hearted and good humoured which kept me engaged. I learned a lot and had a great time.

- Some students require more structure in a learning environment (set tasks with a time frame) - PDF files available on the day would have been useful - The trainer would go off tangent to show their advanced work quite often to show what was possible in Sketch-Up instead of keeping focus of training those new to the program with mastering the basics

As it was my first time using sketch up, it was a very useful course and obviously there is a lot more to learn than what can be covered in two days. I feel we have covered good ground to expand on. It would be great to get some training materials of what we covered on the course.

Excellent level of knowledge from the instructor made for an engaging day. The pace of the learning was well judged to cover a lot but also make sure that the key basics were well imbedded. My only comment would be that the content of the latter part of the day could have been more tailored to the likely use cases for sketch up within the work done at Tate. So, more time to embed importing images, using and saving components, ironing out issues surrounding placing objects and images on walls etc.

Our Senior production manager (whose a whizz on sketch up) has built the majority of gallery spaces. The Curators just need to populate the spaces e.g. put framed paintings on the wall, make a series of plinths (they're always simple white rectangles, they have no intricate details) with sculptures on top (or an image of a sculpture). We also spend alot of time testing different paint colours. Occasionally we add additional walls to break up the larger spaces. I would have loved if the course could have focused more on populating the space, rather than building the environment itself.

Max was incredible with his energy and knowledge, such a pleasure to learn from and the content he's given us was very easy to follow, and any issues were quickly resolved and explained how they happened and how to avoid them in the future. Downside to all was the mouse I was given to start with - it was disgusting! I understand loads of people use the training centre but I think more care should have been given to ensure clean environment.
